Incomingstocktobescreened,entersthecasethroughtheupperinletconnectionandisimmediatelyacceleratedbythefoilassemblysweepingaroundthescreen.Theresultantcentrifugalforcethrowsheavydensecontaminantsawayfromthescreenplateandagainstthesidesofthecasewheretheyareflushedoutthroughtherejectsoutlet.Stockflowisinward(centripetal)throughthescreenplate.Acceptedstockcollectedinthecentercompartmentflowsdownwardandouttheacceptsconnection.Duetotheactionofthefoilassembly,thetangentialvelocityacrossthesurfaceoftheplateexceedstheinwardcentripetalflowvelocitybyafactorofabout10.Thiscausesstocktoapproachthescreenplateatanextremelylowangleandsignificantlyreducestheeffectivesizeofthescreenplateopeningsand,therebyincreasesscreeningefficiency. Rejectmaterialmigratesspirallydownwardthroughtheoutercompartmentandouttherejectsconnection. Thescreenidessentiallyselfcleaningbecauseofthehydrodynamiccharacteristicsofthehydrofoil.Eachfoilgeneratedahighnegativepressurepulsethatnotonlybreaksupthefibermatformedovertheplate,butalsoliterallypullslodgedparticlesfromthescreenplateanddepositstheminthefastmovingtangentialflowaroundthescreen.Ifparticlesaredense,centrifugalforceslingsthemtotheouterwallwheretheyarecollectedattherejectsoutlet. Theventatthetopofthehousingbleedsoffalowflowofstockand,withit,anyairthatmaybeentrainedintheinletstream.Somelightfloatingparticlesmaybecarriedoffwiththisstreamandshouldberejected,Theventmustbeopenduringstartupofthescreen,butmaybeclosedorthrottledduringoperationaftertheinitialairinthesystemhasbeenbledoff.
