The SPM pressure Screen includes a cylindrical plate contained in a pressurized case, a rotating foil assembly, a unitized base, sheaves and belts, motor mounting bracket on slide rails and a 200 hp drive motor.

The pressurized case is essentially s flanged cylinder with a domed top closure. The standard case has a pressure rating of 60 psi (4 bars). There are 3 connections to the main body of the case. They are joined to the case cylinder. The larger upper connection is for incoming stock while the smaller connection, near the bottom is an outlet for rejects. The lower portion of the case is for collecting accepted stock (accepts) after it passes through the screen plate. The accepts outlet connection, in the dome of the case, bleeds entrapped air from the pressure screen.


The drive motor is mounted vertically on an L-shaped motor base which mounts on a slide rail. S matched set of V-belts connects the motor and pressure screen.


Incoming stock to be screened, enters the case through the upper inlet connection and is immediately accelerated by the foil assembly sweeping around the screen. The resultant centrifugal force throws heavy dense contaminants away from the screen plate and against the sides of the case where they are flushed out through the rejects outlet. Stock flow is inward (centripetal) through the screen plate. Accepted stock collected in the center compartment flows downward and out the accepts connection. Due to the action of the foil assembly, the tangential velocity across the surface of the plate exceeds the inward centripetal flow velocity by a factor of about 10. This causes stock to approach the screen plate at an extremely low angle and significantly reduces the effective size of the screen plate openings and, thereby increases screening efficiency.


Reject material migrates spirally downward through the outer compartment and out the rejects connection.


The screen id essentially self cleaning because of the hydrodynamic characteristics of the hydrofoil. Each foil generated a high negative pressure pulse that not only breaks up the fiber mat formed over the plate, but also literally pulls lodged particles from the screen plate and deposits them in the fast moving tangential flow around the screen. If particles are dense, centrifugal force slings them to the outer wall where they are collected at the rejects outlet.


The vent at the top of the housing bleeds off a low flow of stock and, with it, any air that may be entrained in the inlet stream. Some light floating particles may be carried off with this stream and should be rejected, The vent must be open during startup of the screen, but may be closed or throttled during operation after the initial air in the system has been bled off.
